The Built Environment and Climate Change: How the CRE Community Can Support Decarbonization Efforts and the Benefits of Doing So

June 6, 2023 | By Debo Ayeni — Carbon emissions produced by human activities trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere, warm the planet and contribute to changes in the Earth’s climate. Significant amounts of carbon emissions are produced by the built environment and accordingly, commercial real estate investors, owners and operators have a meaningful opportunity to address climate change and the harm it can cause. This report explores some of the ways the CRE community can take the lead in carbon reduction efforts and the many benefits of doing so.
